Full Circle: from pitch to plan

Full Circle came out of a question Julian and I kept asking: our school has a huge network of alumni and parents, so why is it so hard to get an internship?

We ran a poll. 79% of students said they struggled to find one, and 94.7% said the school hadn't helped. The strange part is that alumni do reach out wanting to take on students. Those offers just go nowhere, because nothing connects the two sides.

Full Circle is that connection: an app where students looking for internships meet alumni and parents who post opportunities. It's free for students. The network is private to the school, so employers get motivated interns from a community they already know, and students reach roles they'd never find on their own.

The school pays a subscription priced per user. It costs about $1.20 per user to run, and we'd charge $9.99. Our school has around 800 students and more than 10,000 alumni, so a 2,000-user plan would come to roughly $20,000 a year.

We entered Full Circle in a design sprint run by the London School of Economics and placed first out of eight teams.

Before that, we'd gone to the people at school who'd have to say yes. The alumni relations manager and the director of parent programs both pledged to partner with us and offered us a chance to pitch at parent association conferences. Now we're working with the alumni director to roll Full Circle out school-wide.

The plan after that: other private schools in South Florida within a year, the Southeast within three, and the rest of the country within five.

I remember my teacher saying to my social entrepreneurship class the next day "who was Alexa up there on stage I mean she killed it. So confident and just amazing. I'm blown away!"
